The present five-year term of the current editors of History of Education Review is due…
Andy Spaull
With a heavy heart we are letting you know that one of Australia’s most productive and creative historians of education, Andy Spaull, died on Saturday morning, 26 January 2019.
Andy was not only an educational historian but labour historian as well. Two of his books of great significance were on education in Australia in World War II, and the other, a biography of John Dedman, a minister of significance in the federal governments of Curtin and Chifley.
Andy was a great supporter of ANZHES, assuming the roles of Treasurer and President at different times.
He was also a generous and occasionally larger than life figure at ANZHES conferences. Conference dinners have never been quite the same without him. The good natured laughter–and singing—led by Andy are sorely missed, as is his scholarship of course.
Colleagues and friends who worked with Andy at Monash University over many years will be especially moved by his passing.
The next ANZHES newsletter will run a longer notice of farewell.
